How to prepare for the electronic Documento de Control

12/02/2026

The digital transformation of logistics across Europe is accelerating and in Spain, it is becoming a legal requirement. From October 2026, the Documento de Control must be issued in electronic form for road transport and must be available at all times for inspection.

Discover how you can prepare your company for this digital transition.

Documento de Control, Carta de Porte and eCMR

Spain requires logistics companies to manage multiple legally mandatory transport documents, each with its own rules and conditions.

Documento de Control
The Documento de Control is a legally mandatory administrative document for the carriage of goods by road. In 2025 Spain adopted the Sustainable Mobility Law, which explicitly states that the Documento de Control must be issued digitally from October 2026 onwards.

Carta de Porte
Spanish regulations also require a Carta de Porte (national consignment note) for transport contracts with a value exceeding €150.

eCMR
When goods are transported across borders, an international CMR is used. You can read more about this in our previous article.

From 2027, the eFTI Regulation will require all EU Member States to accept electronic transport information, including the electronic CMR (eCMR).

How to digitize your documents

Pionira actively supports the market in this transition. As a software provider for digital transport documents, we offer digital solutions for:

  • Documento de Control;
  • Carta de Porte;
  • International CMR (eCMR).

This allows companies to create and manage all required transport documents within a single digital application. These digital documents have the same legal value as the current paper ones and can be consulted digitally by drivers and competent authorities.

Our solution can also be integrated with existing TMS, ERP or other systems via API, enabling a fully automated document flow.

One key advantage: your transport documentation remains fully compliant, both nationally and internationally.
